Little Jack Horner…ok, you know where this is going. PLUM, PLUM, PLUM and DARK PLUM at that. Jack’s thumb pinched stem, filled of plum is a gem; a touch of brown spice makes the nose want again.“WOW!” exclaims Jack, as he lays it back, “Wow, what a good wine have I. It’s soft as a flower, yet supple with power, just right for girls and guys.” And bad boy Jack is even sneaking in a little tobacco behind a layer of black currant. Nursery rhymes these days, what a mouthful...pair with dark goose meat and cranberry sauce.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Pomatia is a blend of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 25% Syrah, and 11% Cabernet Franc aged in 29% new French oak. It reveals an already complex, fragrant nose of smoke, red fruits, a hint of balsamic, and herbs. Medium-bodied, spicy, and well-balanced, it possesses good volume and concentration leading to a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Drink this outstanding value over the next 8 years.

Score: 89. —Jay Miller, August 2010.

Wine Enthusiast

Pomatia is an almost mythical creation—like one of those half man, half beast monsters from ancient times. The blend is not that unusual, but the results might be likened to a sculpture by Picasso—a piece of wood here, an old newspaper there, and a bicycle seat for a head. Not to disparage the wine—it’s flavorful and full-bodied, but a puzzler. Funkadelic meets Clapton? Cherries and earth, tannin and tea.

Score: 88. —Paul Gregutt, November 01, 2010.

Wine Spectator

Spicy, featuring a savory edge to the solid black currant and smoke flavors, lingering easily. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2012. 3,274 cases made.

Score: 87. —Harvey Steiman, 2010.
