Torbreck

The name Woodcutter’s stems from David Powell’s several years spent working the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack in the Torbreck forest. This wine reflects the up & coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle hardened old warriors which make up the heart and soul of our other cuvees. Dense, rich and opulent, this wine combines great fruit purity with texture, complexity and finesse. While offering immense pleasure in its youth, the 2007 Woodcutter’s Shiraz will no doubt develop into an impressive wine with a few years in the cellar.

Wine Advocate

Deep garnet to purple colour. Invigorating nose of freshly crushed blackberries, eucalyptus, Chinese five spice, liquorice and black pepper. The palate is superbly balanced providing a medium+ level of velvety tannins and medium to high acidity. Very long peppery finish. Drink now to 2015. Tasted February 2009.

Score: 91. —Lisa Perrotti-Brown, May 2009.

International Wine Cellar

"Inky ruby. Sexy dark berry and cherry compote on the nose, with subtle mocha and incense notes. Sweet blackberry and cherry-cola flavors pick up some dusty tannins with air. Pleasantly juicy and fresh, with clean finishing fruit and a late jolt of licorice. This became more floral and minerally with air while maintaining its seductively fruity personality."

Score: 90. —Stephen Tanzer, September 2008.
