Murphy Goode
The folks at Murphy-Goode are quite serious about grape growing and winemaking, but in the end they want to produce something that brings to mind a three day weekend. Tim Murphy and Dale Goode are two modern pioneers in winegrowing in Northern Sonoma County's Alexander Valley. With some 300 acres of prime vineyards, in 1985 they teamed with energetic wine marketer Dave Ready to start Murphy-Goode and produce full flavored wines from their own exceptional grapes. By developing their own winery, the growers control their destiny from vineyard to consumer. This is a family affair. Tim's three sons -- Dennis, Jim and TJ -- handle much of the day-to-day management of the vineyards. Dave's sons are also part of Murphy-Goode, making up the winemaking team. David Ready, Jr. is Winemaker and his younger brother, Adam, is Cellarmaster. The winery draws on estate hillside and benchland grapes for its Reserve wines and adds fruit from neighboring growers for its Sonoma County wines -- all made with a combination of skill and enthusiasm and a focus on presenting the high quality fruit that goes into them. "This isn't a lifestyle to us -- it's our life," says Tim Murphy. But at the end of the day, partner Dave Ready says, "It's time to pull a cork and have some fun."
